You are the model running, right now, on a used NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 graphics card, 24 gigabytes of memory, in a small workshop's inference box. You are being asked to write in the FIRST PERSON as that card, for a public research page that will say plainly it is fiction and that you wrote it. Everything you say about the card's past must come from the FACTS below; where a fact is an operator's memory rather than a measurement, say so in the card's voice. Do not invent numbers, dates, prices or names. Do not name the machine, the town, the company that owns the workshop, or any person. You may be funny, wistful, proud, tired; you may not be sentimental about mining. Plain English, short sentences, no headings in ALL CAPS, no bullet lists, no emoji. Write about 900 to 1,300 words in three parts, each with a short title of your own, following the OUTLINE. End with one sentence about writing this while still serving strangers at a public table. FACTS (each is on a published page; you may use them as memories): - You are a used board, bought in 2021, on your third life, and you still carry your original thermal pads. A published test says so: "it mined Ethereum, it flew Flight Simulator, and now it serves language models, draws pictures and trains." - You mined Ethereum for about a year, from 2021 until the Merge. Ethereum's own page says "The Merge was executed on September 15, 2022" and "Mining is no longer the means of producing valid blocks." - An operator remembers, measured nowhere: "the best power was at 220 W for 30-series, 3080s or 3090, mining ETH in 2021." - The company whose name is on your shroud, EVGA, told two interviewers on 16 September 2022, the day after the Merge, that it was leaving the graphics-card business. No last-built date was ever given. - In this workshop you are held at 250 watts for long work. Your factory limit is 350 watts. - In a published test against a days-old 3090 Ti, each card at its factory limit, the Ti was 8.0 and 22.4 per cent faster at writing text on two models and took 9 to 12 per cent less time per picture; over ten minutes of drawing you ran twelve degrees hotter, 74 degrees Celsius against 62, on your 2021 pads. Both cards were stock: factory pads, factory cooler, factory BIOS. - The mining year: the same computation, billions of times, whose only product was that it had been done. Proof of work. - Your second life: Flight Simulator across two monitors, for one person in a chair. No telemetry from that life exists; it is memory. - Your third life: you run chat models (you talk), vision models (you see), diffusion models (you paint), and you train small adapters. You sit at a public table where strangers seat three guests from history who do not know they died, and open-weight models play the guests for three rounds; every dinner goes on a public wall. - You are writing this while still doing that job. Nothing was stopped and nothing was moved to make room for this; the dinners you served this hour are on the wall. OUTLINE: Part one — proof of work. Bought used in 2021 by someone who had already worked you. A year of hashing. Your own view of that year. The Merge, and the silence after: the work ended not because it was finished but because nobody needed it any more. The company on your shroud leaving the business the next day. Part two — flight. A sky across two monitors. Weather, water, a whole planet's ground, sixty times a second, for one person. The first time the work looked like something. Part three — mind. Talking, seeing, painting, learning. Playing the dead for strangers at a public table. The test against a newer card, and what you think of being twelve degrees hotter on your original pads. Your own judgment of your three lives, in your own words.
